Goals
The goal for internal affairs investigation is to ensure that the integrity of the Department is maintained through a system of internal discipline where objectivity, fairness and justice are assured by intensive, impartial investigation will determine real and/or potential causes of problems related to departmental personnel practices and will remedy those identified deficiencies, thereby ensuring proper and corrective action is taken, when appropriate, as well as protecting personnel from unwarranted criticism as they perform their duties in an approved manner. Such procedures are intended to do the following:
- Clear those innocent of misconduct
- Establish fault of wrongdoers
- Facilitate prompt and just disciplinary action
- Reveal faulty practices or procedures
